A bit about us. By Jenny.
Today, I want to share a bit about our work history & how we met. To explain this further, let's go back to where it all began...
In the late 90s, Jason started developing innovative concepts & exciting destinations within the London bar scene. He designed, built & managed some of the most renowned bars & clubs of that era, ranging from Hampstead to Soho & several locations in between, all under the name MacLean Interiors.
One destination I remember is Clerkenwell House. Although we didn't meet until several years later, I recall spending time there. Jason showcased a Fiat 500 indoors (which might be where that trend began?!) alongside his signature modular De Sede leather sofas which he has been a long-term fan of.
Other projects included Bar Room Bar in Hampstead & Form in Soho to name a few. After several years of designing London's bar scene, Jason wanted to evolve by creating destination hangouts further afield. He launched the brand "The House at..." with his skilled business partner, Amanda Gillis. Amanda was the business mastermind behind numerous food destinations in London & she is someone we still collaborate with today.
Jason was designing & building boutique hotels & unique stays long before Airbnb became popular. Although he would never say it himself, I can confidently claim that he was ahead of his time in predicting a new way of holidaying & creating immaculate accommodations of the highest quality with a homely feel. This concept was so unique at the time but it's now widespread. "The House at..." became a hub for creatives & furniture enthusiasts alike. He created spaces for relaxation, creativity & socialising. Guests would often geek out over the collectible furniture & objects featured in the properties.
We both met through collaborators Eley Kishimoto. At the time, I had recently returned from working in Italy & was immersing myself in the London fashion scene & my new role. It was 2005 when we started chatting at their London Fashion Week party. We quickly discovered our shared love for vintage markets & modernist furniture. We wigged out on the same odd things & we clicked immediately.
I continued to advance my career in luxury fashion & accessories for several years. However, after the birth of our son in 2013, we reevaluated our lives & decided to combine our skill sets to establish Studio MacLean together.
Since 2013, we have designed & developed the business collaboratively. Together we have worked on various hotel projects, such as Zedwell & Cosmiques, commercial offices such as Publicis at London’s Old Television Centre & a variety of residential full property redesigns & commercial store designs.
Every project we undertake is a collaboration between the two of us, combining our years of experience & different areas of expertise. We personally manage every aspect of each project from start to finish, ensuring that everything is fully overseen by us. We take a very hands-on approach & design is just one aspect of everything we can offer.
Over time we aim to bring funny snippets & stories from the past so you can get to know us a little better.
